Course Description
Civics and Economics provides a framework for understanding the basic tenets of American democracy and practices of American government as established by the United States Constitution, basic concepts of American politics, and citizenship and concepts in macro and micro economics and personal finance.
This course is framed to develop students’ increased understanding of the institutions of constitutional democracy and the fundamental principles and values upon which they are founded, the skills necessary to participate as effective and responsible citizens and the knowledge of how to use democratic procedures for making decisions and managing conflict.
Students will also understand the role economic factors play in making economic decisions, the ability to reason logically about key economic issues and the knowledge and skills needed to manage personal financial resources resulting in preparing students to become responsible and effective citizens in an interdependent world.

Analyze the foundations and development of American Government in terms of principles and values. 2. Analyze government systems within the United States-structure, function and relationship.
3. Analyze legal systems within the United States in terms of the development, execution
and protection of citizenship rights at all levels of government.
4. Understand how democracy upon the active participation of citizens.
5. Analyze how political and legal systems within and outside of the United States provide a
means to balance competing interest and resolve conflicts.
6. Analyze the concepts and factors that enable individuals to make informed financial
decisions for effective resource planning.
7. Understand how risk management strategies empower and protect consumers.
8. Understand economies, markets and the role economic factors play in making economic
decisions.
9. Understand factors of economic independence and their impact on nations.
10. Understand factors of economic interdependence and their impact on nations.
11. Analyze the role of government and economic institutions in developing and implementing
economics stabilization policies in the U.S.

Grading Policy: Meets the objectives and requirements set forth by CMS Board Regulation IKA and Strategic Plan 2018.

B. 89-80
C. 79-70

Classroom Rules and Expectations
Respect- Our most important rule-I will be respectful of you, and I expect each of you to demonstrate respect for me and everyone in the classroom at all times.
Cell phones are not allowed in this class (they are a distraction), and this is NON-NEGOTIABLE. They should NEVER BE VISIBLE during class. All necessary information can be accessed through your Chromebook and Textbook.
First offense- the phone will be taken for the remainder of the period. Second Offense-parent/guardian will be contacted. Third offense- your parent/guardian may come in for a conference to retrieve your phone. If your parents need to contact you due to an emergency, have them contact the school.
Student Responsibility
Come to class prepared by bringing all necessary materials which will ensure your ability to complete assigned classwork.
Make-up assignments may be submitted within 2 (two) days of an absence. All make up work can be found in canvas.
Late-work- will be accepted up to one week before exams
80% is highest grade after day 1
70% is highest grade after day 2
59% is highest grade after day 3
Informal assessments- 60% of quarter grade. Students who were not present in class on the due date because of an excused absence will receive full credit if the work is turned in at the start of class when they return
Formal assessments- 40% of quarter grade. (test-10% each).
Remediation/Reassessment: Students who score below a 79% can retest after completing remediation and the higher of the two grades will be accepted for a maximum of 79%. Students are responsible for completing the remediation and initiating the retest process within two weeks of the original test date.
